Welcome to my PG updates.

Yesterday we have myself, Janet, Rachel, Olives, Khim (the famous five), Yoke May and Maria (our new friend) at our PG at Khush’s(izzit the right spelling??) at Century Square. I made a lame joke about being at Century Square or b square but somehow my email did nt get through on Monday. Anyway….how is everyone on this hot and balmy Thursday afternoon?

Prayer items include praying for people with ‘sprained body parts’, Maria for her ankle and Jeffrey for his finger (hows ur finger now, Jeff?); Khim, for journey mercies for his trip to jakarta next week; myself, for the commencing semester and its ensuing kraziness/choaticness; Janet, for her to be able to cope with work pressures; Yoke May, to have a positive attitude towards her students………..and generally God’s blessings upon those of us who cant make it to PG.

So when am i seeing you guys..namely Freddie, Jeff and the Ericsson gang? Do try to join us for a refreshing time of fellowship and ‘fei lo’ship (okay, overused term)…Till we meet again next week….welcome back Jijian and have a great weekend, guys!!!!!

PJ PG, you rockkkkkkk!

So gung-ho. With so many caught up with work, PJ PG narrowly missed the opportunity to meet up for lunch. But we just couldnt let that happen!! *grin*

Sun Wong Char Chan Teng, Jaya ONE was the place to be for 4 of us:

1. Amanda Tan

2. Joanne (NEW!)

3. Jolene (NEW!)

4. wernlu

pics captured with state-of-the-art night cameras

Amanda’s management trainees had a chance to have lunch with us, and BUT it was no ordinary lunch. It was a blackout PG lunch hahah! We carried a good conversation anyways (in the dark!) as you can see pics above —–>>

(i think there is a novelty restaurant that serves food in the dark. i read somewhere. i think it heightens our ability to taste better.. hehe)

psst… Hey anyone out there working in PJ? We’re looking forward to lunch with you next week. You can be sure it will be one unique lunch experience ;) God bless!

signing off, wernlu

Hi all,

How’s everyone doing in this week? I’m sure God is doing miracles in all YWA’s life and making us shine in the market shine as always, praise the Lord =) I personally have very strong gut feelings that this week PG is going to be very exciting and there are definitely more great testimonies that will be shared by all our dearest brothers and sisters in Christ.

For celebrating such wonderful session, let’s explore a new venue for this week PG. I will suggest we meet at Kim Gary, Avenue K same time from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM. You are most welcomed to give your opinions and suggestions for the venue. Otherwise, we will see everyone at Kim Gary, Avenue K this coming Friday, 1st August, 12:30 PM. Can’t wait to meet everyone again as I have missed PG session for quite some time due to my tight schedule. Till this Friday, do enjoy many great things that God has set ahead for us. Happy working, cheers… =)

Updates on last Friday’s PG. Food was fantastic as always at Wendy’s. But some of us had differing views which calls for a food review to determine the bestest of the best, happening this week… so stay tune for that. Anyways, here’s the head count:

  1. Janet Ling
  2. Martha (2nd time and we didn’t scare her away. Yay!)
  3. Elaine Pong
  4. Celina Tan
  5. Me

We had a great girly time, laughing and sharing some market talk (as in real vege & fish market) and really just getting to know one another better. For those who missed out, join us this coming Fri where we’ll also be telling you who won the battle of the ham bar ger! *hint hint* Coming soon to you!

:: Top 6 :: Things not to Say in an Interview by wernlu

Interviews. Ah. It’s like a breath of fresh air. It’s a chance to a new lease of career bliss. Prepare well for it, you will smoothly glide through it. Irrespective of the outcome, there’s always a lesson learnt.

Check list: the firm handshake. Dress code. Resume. Crucial basic grooming (Note: the nails!)

What works: Speaking in tongues (before the interview, under your breath) help calms the nerves and up the confidence.

1. “I hated my last boss.”

Okay, yes, statistics states that the no.1 reason people change jobs is to escape their current boss. If you have nothing nice to say about him / her, then don’t say much at all. To them, if you could relate this way about your ex-boss, you most likely will revert to this when you exit their company.

Tip: Be prepared to explain what type of organisation is right for you, and type of management style you best respond to.

2. “I don’t know anything about the company.”

In this age of technology, it’s no excuse not to find out more about the company. Google it, and chances are you will find a very updated website of the company. Huge possibility the interviewer will ask what you know about the company. If you say you don’t know anything about it, the interviewer will wonder why you’re applying for the job and will probably conclude you’re after money, position and not a career.

What works: Can’t find a particular info of the company? Try calling up and quizzing the receptionist for some As to Qs that you feel may come up during the interview!

3. “No, I don’t have any questions for you.”

Oops, many are guilty of this. It could just be our Asian culture. “Pai sieh lah”. Asking good question shows that you have done sufficient prep work before the interview. It also shows the employer just how keen you are in securing a job with them.

Tip: Know / prepare beforehand what you intend to ask. Any job-related question is a good filler for those silent awkward moments some might face during interviews.

4. “I’m going to need to take these days off.”

Work hard, play just as hard. However, requesting days off before being offered the job may trigger the lack-of-commitment alarm. Exercise wisdom when treading in this area. If it’s a prior commitment that you have signed up for, then rest assured it will work out. Somehow. All things work for the good of those who love the Lord!

5. “How long until I get a promotion?”

It’s good to show an employer you are ambitious and looking at the big picture. Let’s not come across as brass and arrogant. Engage in a tactful conversation about it. Reword it, diplomatically.

Tip #1: Ask the interviewer the typical career path for the position.

Tip #2: Ask the interviewer why the position is open. You might find out it’s due to a promotion and can use that information to learn more about career opportunities.

Remember: promotion comes from the Lord J

6. “I don’t have any extra curricular activities”

Employers love to know how you balance work with all the other responsibilities in life. Buzzword with multinationals now is community service. They are even offering their time hours to giving back to the community.

Tip: Passionately involved in church’s Community-focused arm / activity could work to be that icing on your resume.

Last but not least. Go for it!

All the best, *wernlu*

Hey blessed PG members,

Praise God for a wonderful weekend in Acts Church, with more testimonies coming our way. 1,000 people attending the Revo Tour in Penang with 26 salvations. Praise God for His continous work through Acts Church

Thank you Adrian, Tuck Wee, Lily, Cindy, Jay, Alwyn for coming for last week’s PG. It was awesome, having fellowship and encouragement! Welcome Tuck Wee who came for the first time to the KLCC PG. Hope you were deeply blessed.

God has been good and is always looking to bless those who continue to trust Him. There are three testimonies, as follows:

1. Alwyn had a extraordinary adjustment in his salary and it had been more than what he has expected before he accepted the job in the frist place. Praise God for that

2. Lily has passed her MBA exams

3. Doors has been opened for Daniel in his potential switch beween departments.

In remembering all that God can and will do for us, let’s keep these dear brothers and sisters in prayer:

1.   Jay who has a throat infection. Pray that she will heal by this weekend as she goes for the last lap of recording for the Actstream Album.

2.   Tuck Wee who has some pain in the knee. Pray that God will heal him.

3.   Cindy for a good package (compensation/career wise) at her workplace as her 6 month contract is going to expire in two months time

4.   Daniel for career direction as he continues ponders between switching departments and staying.

5.   Adrian for career direction as he considers whether to stay or find new pastures.

6.   Revolution Penang team as they head on tour.

7.   ACTStream as they try to wrap up the production of the album, hopefully by 4 Aug! Or else, by Revolution Conference.

Service in the Lord,

Daniel Tan

By a very dedicated courageous anonymous young African pastor.

I’m part of the fellowship of the unashamed. I have the Holy Spirit power. The die has been cast. I have stepped over the line. The decision has been made. I’m a disciple of His. I won’t look back, let up, slow down, back away, or be still.

My past is redeemed, my present makes sense, my future is secure. I’m finished and done with low living, sight walking, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tamed visions, mundane talking, cheap living, and dwarfed goals.

I no longer need preeminence, prosperity, position, promotions, plaudits, or popularity. I don’t have to be right, first, tops, recognized, praised, regarded, or rewarded. I now live by faith, lean on His presence, walk by patience, lift by prayer, and labor by power.

My face is set, my gait is fast, my goal is heaven, my road is narrow, my way is rough, my companions are few, my Guide is reliable, my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded, or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of the adversary, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander in the maze of mediocrity.

I won’t give up, shut up, let up, until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up, and preached up for the cause of Christ. I am a disciple of Jesus. I must go till He comes, give till I drop, preach till all know, and work till He stops me. And when He comes for His own, He will have no problem recognizing me – my banner will be clear.

Amen. Amen. And amen :) (italics are mine).
