I was fortunate enough to go for the ONE LIFE: Do Something campaign that was organized by WorldVision at DUMC yesterday. At the end of the journey, I was in tears. I suppose because it can’t get any real that this. You are taken into a journey through the footsteps of a child and you walk through their life as a first person view.

Before you enter, you are given an mp3 device with a pair of headphones that tell the story of a child and navigate you around. I walked through the life of Srey Mom, a Cambodian girl who was sold to prostitution at the age of 12.

As I walked through the different “doors” of her life, I found myself understanding and feeling of hopelessness. You walk in alone so you are isolated from everyone else and the idea of you facing the struggles by yourself is so real. Each room you walk into is so authentic that it can get really scary.

You’ll be in for a surprise when you walk into the Clinic “door” and find your fate decided.

Before exiting the journey, you are given the opportunity to make a difference by penning a few words of encouragement to those who are in such a predicament. I had to collect my thoughts and emotions before I could write something. I was kinda overwhelmed. I was just numbed by the whole experience. I wrote a short note and Isaiah 40:31 and pinned it to the board.

I walked through the life of Jothi, an indian child and it was just as heartbreaking. I wanted to enter a third time to walk through the life of John, a malaysian child but the crowd had gotten too long and I was pressed for time. :(

I encourage you to take this journey and you will be moved with compassion.

Child prostitution and the HIV epidemic is very real. We need to see beyond our physical eyes and see it through the eyes our loving Father. As children of God, we are His hands and His feet to the world.

I sponsored a child that day through WorldVision. It’s been something I have considered doing for awhile. Am so glad I finally did it! For a mere RM80 a month, you can make a difference in a child’s life.

One Life. Do Something.

PS. Sunday is the last day for the exhibit. And they have extended it to 10PM. If you can’t make it for this round they are coming back again in Nov & Dec. Check https://www.worldvision.com.my/onelife/ for more details.

Read anything good lately? by alexironmaniac

I just recently came across a couple books for young working adults that I’d like to recommend. They are more like workbooks, so you have to do some reading and answer some questions. The books are very well designed and gives you lots of room to scribble as you go along. If you’re like me, I tend to write along the sides of the books so it was an absolute joy to write and scribble on them!

Reading is the easy part, the tough part comes when you have to answer the questions. Because you have to be honest with your answers, it draws from the very core of what you believe and encourages you to write it down so you end up learning a bit more about yourself as you tackle these questions. The stories are great! Very relevant and you don’t feel like you have to be overly spiritual to read ‘em. They get to the point and are simple to understand!

I bought 2 of the books: In Transit: What Do You Do With Your Wait? and The Tough Sayings of Jesus and hope to buy more once I am done with the both of them. I trust it will inspire you, challenge you and put you at an “uncomfortable” place for growth!

Check it out ya? They even give you the sample PDFs so you can have a taste of what you’re in for! I did it first, and then only decided to buy the books. They are available at Canaanland for RM23.90
